Stained Glass Restoration for Dallas Churches, Chapels, and Cathedrals
Dallas has many diverse houses of worship throughout its beautiful neighborhoods from Deep Ellum to Uptown. These religious facilities feature some of the most gorgeous historic stained glass windows in the country. As a rule, stained glass begins to naturally deteriorate around 75-100 years of age. Other factors hastening church stained glass degradation include severe storms, vandalism, and accidents that require immediate attention for your stained glass. However, restoring your church’s stained glass for any reason offers countless benefits for your congregation and community as a whole, including but not limited to preserving a piece of local history.
Restoration Process For Churches In Dallas
Our restoration process always begins with an onsite assessment of your stained glass. This a critical step to help us understand exactly what the scope of the project will be and to give you precise stained glass restoration pricing. We take into account the various causes of deterioration, which could be numerous, and then create an individually tailored restoration plan for your stained glass windows.
All of our church restoration assessments include:
A restoration cost-benefit analysis
A project timeline from start to finish
A comprehensive estimate of repairs
Once you and your church committee or patrons decide to undergo restoration, we begin the process of carefully cleaning and repairing as much of the stained glass within the window as we can. Sometimes there is nothing we can do for your windows while they’re still installed in the church, but other times we can accomplish most of the work right there. It really depends on the age of your windows and the degree of damage to the stained glass and surrounding frame.
Next, the pieces we do need to repair offsite are carefully removed and transported to our studio. On smaller windows, this is a fairly simple process and may only require some workmen and a ladder. However, for those gorgeous towering windows, we sometimes need to bring in special lift equipment and additional crew to make sure we don’t do any more damage and that the window removal goes smoothly.
Once your Dallas church’s stained glass windows make it safely back to our stained glass repair studio, we get working on bringing them back to life. All of the glass is soaked in a nontoxic solution to remove built up dust and grime. Frames are often rebuilt or reinforced too. The most time consuming and “artistic” part of the restoration is the glass repair. Often, new glass pieces are created to match the original glass in your church window—well worth the time and expense for the authenticity it provides.
Finally, the stained glass window is carefully loaded up and delivered back to its original home: your church’s windows. At this time, our restoration crew replaces the entire window or missing parts. The crew is sure to use care in and around your church space and leave your chapel better than they found it. This step is our favorite, as we get to see the stained glass in its loving church home nearly exactly how it stood decades upon decades ago!
