Restoration Process for McAllen Church Stained Glass

Stained glass restoration is a process that is usually completed in phases. The first step is evaluating the condition of the stained glass. We will visit your McAllen church to see the stained glass and make a plan for its restoration. The details of this plan will be sent to you in the form of a proposal along with cost estimations.

Once you approve of the plan, we begin the process of removing the stained glass so that it can be cleaned and repaired. The windows are taken out of their frames and transported to our workshop. Then, we soak them in a mixture of mild soap and warm water to dissolve the dirt, muck, and grime which has accumulated over the years.

Next, the stained glass is documented and carefully taken apart. Pieces with major cracks or damage are replaced. The old lead caming is discarded and switched out for new. Then, the stained glass is assembled back together and bound with cement. If the windows are large, brace bars may be added for extra support. As a final touch, we clean and polish each window.

Once all of this is finished, we bring the stained glass back to your church in McAllen so that it can be reinstalled. Often, we recommend also having a piece of safety glass installed to protect the windows. Once the stained glass is secured in place, it can be enjoyed once again by your staff and congregation.
