Restoration Process for Albany Church Stained Glass
The timeline for stained glass restoration varies from one project to the next. It is a time consuming process. Therefore, it’s not unusual for the process to take several weeks or even several months to complete. However, once its finished, your stained glass will be stronger and more beautiful than ever before.
We begin the stained glass restoration process for Albany churches with an onsite consultation. This visit serves as both a formal meet and greet as well as an opportunity for inspection. Our experts will carefully examine and evaluate the condition of your stained glass. In the end, you’ll have a report that outlines the damage and possible avenues for repairs.
After you give us the official approval, we’ll proceed with the repair process right away. When possible, we try to complete repairs onsite in order to save time and expense. In many cases, however, it’s best for the repairs to be completed in studio, where we can work more efficiently. In this case, the stained glass is removed from the church and brought to our workshop where it is placed in a bath of cleansing solution.
After soaking in the cleansing solution for one to two weeks, the stained glass is taken apart. Damaged pieces are exchanged for new matching ones. Hand-painted details are recreated by a member of our team who is an experienced painter. Then, the stained glass is put back together with new lead caming and cement. Afterwards, it is cleaned, polished, and prepared for the re-installation process.
Finally, the stained glass is brought back to the church. Sometimes, we will recommend having a protective covering placed over the windows to prevent future damage. Once the stained glass is installed and the covering is added, the process is complete. Your church will be able to enjoy its beauty and glory for another 100 years.
