Cape Coral, Florida

Stained Glass Repair & Restoration

Cape Coral was founded in 1957 and today is home to a thriving religious community. In the Cape Coral and Fort Meyers areas, churches belonging to Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, Pentecostal, and Christian worshippers can be found in abundance, many of which house beautiful stained glass windows. Unfortunately, because of the near proximity of the Gulf of Mexico, storm damage to stained glass is quite common in the Lee County area. Severe winds, flooding, and tropical storms can cause catastrophic damage that leaves stained glass in a vulnerable state. The good news is, with the proper repairs, many of these beautiful windows can be saved and restored to their former glory.

At Church Stained Glass Restoration, we are experts in restoring stained glass windows belonging to religious buildings of all types, including temples, churches, cathedrals, chapels, and synagogues. If you are in need of church stained glass repair or restoration in Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, or Sanibel, we would be honored to be part of your project.

Stained Glass Restoration for Cape Coral & Fort Myers Churches

Stained glass windows are an eye-catching architectural feature. Often, they are a defining characteristic in the churches they occupy. For this reason, historic preservation often includes restoration of these stained glass features to ensure their longevity as well as aesthetic value in architecture. Churches usually feel strongly about restoring their stained glass because of its sentimental or monetary value. For these reasons and more, many churches are eager to have their stained glass repaired so that it can be enjoyed by future generations.

Once stained glass windows reach a certain age, their condition begins to decline. This occurs naturally as gravity places pressure on key structural components and oxidation causes discoloration. Cracking, bowing, and deterioration occur over time due to exposure to the elements. With stained glass restoration, these issues can be rectified, renewing the value and beauty of your Florida church’s most precious and beloved art.

Restoration Process for Cape Coral Church Stained Glass

Stained glass restoration is a complex process that can take months or years to complete, but it’s important not to wait too long before beginning the project. Just like any other type of preservation work, stained glass needs time and skillful hands in order for its beauty to be preserved. Waiting too long could also result in further damage, making future repairs costly or impossible.

Our team of professional and experienced artists will come onsite to evaluate the condition, age, and value of your stained glass. We will then create a report, outlining possible courses for repair. Then, once you give us approval, we’ll proceed with the restoration process.

In most cases, we need to remove the stained glass in order for us to complete our repairs. We first try and do as many of these repairs as we can without removing the stained glass. However, this is not always possible and removal is necessary. Once it has been removed from the church, the stained glass is placed in a cleansing solution so that the dirt and grime which has accumulated over the years can be removed.

After the stained glass has soaked for several days and dirt is removed, we carefully take it apart. A CAD blueprint is generated documenting the original design. Broken pieces of glass are exchanged for new ones along with any deteriorated lead caming. Then one of our artists recreates hand-painted details, making the stained glass look exactly the way it was before it was taken apart. Then, the window is assembled back together with new cement and leading, then soldered at the joints. Once complete, we clean each panel until they are good as new in preparation for their return to your church in Cape Coral!

The stained glass is carefully returned to the church and mounted in its frame. Sometimes, a protective covering is added for protection against future damage. Once they’re all securely in position, you can say that this process has come full circle! Your church stained glass windows can now be enjoyed for another 100 years!
