Stained Glass Repair & Restoration

Greensboro is one of the most historically significant cities in the Southeast. Towards the end of the Civil War, it was the last place where the entire Confederate government met as a group. Later, during the Civil Rights Movement, several protests took place in Greensboro, which ultimately resulted in the desegregation of public places. Today, it is the third most populous city in North Carolina and is home to a diverse religious body, including followers of Islam, Judaism, Catholicism, Christianity, and many other religions. For these reasons and more, the preservation of Greensboro’s historic buildings and churches is important for the preservation of U.S. history as a whole.

Restoration Process for Greensboro Church Stained Glass

As an artisanal team passionate about stained glass artistry, we view its historic conservation and preservation as a matter of utmost importance. When conducting repairs, our goal is to be conservative by replacing only what’s absolutely necessary while saving the original materials whenever possible.

The process begins with an onsite visit and evaluation. The stained glass is inspected for signs of deterioration like bowing, sagging, cracks, or white chalky metal that point to a need for repair work. If the church approves our proposal, we’ll immediately begin repairing any damages  so that your stained glass can continue shining as brightly as ever!

The stained glass window is carefully removed and brought to our studio. It’s taken apart, cleaned up, and reassembled with new pieces of lead caming and glass. Then, it’s repainted, cemented back together, and cleaned once again before being sent back home.

The final step of the process is re-installing the stained glass, which must be done carefully and sometimes with specialized equipment or machinery. A protective cover is then added to guard windows from any threats they may encounter in the future. Now, your church can enjoy its lovely window for another decade!
