Restoration Process for Ogden Church Stained Glass

Stained glass restoration is a complicated process that can take weeks or months to complete. It’s best to get started as soon as possible, before the condition of stained glass continues deteriorating and getting worse over time.

The restoration process begins with an onsite consultation where we evaluate the condition of your stained glass. Then, we compile a report that outlines possible courses of action. Once you let us know what course to take, we’ll begin repairing it immediately!

We always start by trying to complete as many of the repairs without removing the stained glass. This saves money and time, but we’re limited in what we can do when working this way. In most cases, it’s necessary for us to remove the stained glass from inside a window frame so that our team members are able to work on it properly. We then bring them back to our shop where they soak in tubs filled with cleansing solution, which gets rid of any dirt or grime accumulated over years while still leaving behind its rich colors.

After the stained glass has soaked for several days and the dirt dissolves, we carefully take it apart. A CAD blueprint is generated with meticulous detail of every piece in its original design. Deteriorated pieces that need to be replaced are exchanged for new matching ones. Then the panels are put back together using new lead caming or cement. We then clean all surfaces and prepare them so they can return to their rightful place in your church.

Once the stained glass has been restored, it is returned to its original place and secured. A protective covering is placed over each window to keep them safe. Now, you can enjoy your beautiful stained glass as it shines in the glorious sunlight!
