Restoration Process for Winston-Salem Church Stained Glass

Stained glass windows are delicate and intricate pieces of art that take months to restore, but the results will be worth it. Repairs to these time-honored works of art must be made with care and precision if you want them in your church or chapel’s walls forever. Restoration can sometimes takes weeks or even months just because every detail matters when caring for such fragile materials. But don’t worry – our skilled craftsmen have restored countless stained glass windows since we opened our doors three decades ago, so trust us on this one!

We start the process with an inspection of your church’s stained glass windows. We look them over them from top to bottom, searching for signs of deterioration. This gives us a chance to see their condition and age and also determine what kind of repairs might be necessary. All findings are compiled into an initial proposal which is sent back to you for review.

After we receive your approval, the restoration process will begin. If possible, our team can complete repairs on site to save time and money. However, most of the time stained glass needs to be removed so that it can be restored properly in a workshop environment free from dust or dirt particles that could potentially damage delicate features. So, we bring them to our workshop and allow them to soak in a bath of cleansing solution before taking them apart.

As conservationists, we try to preserve as much of the original stained glass as possible. Only when pieces are badly damaged do we replace them with identical replacements. Almost always, however, we replace the lead caming and repair any broken or cracked sections that could weaken the stained glass or cause other damage. Then, the entire panel is assembled back together and carefully polished.

The final phase of this process is re-installation. The stained glass is brought back to your church and carefully installed into the window frames with a protective covering placed over it. Now, you can enjoy its beauty for years to come without any more worries about potential damage.
